Product description Teapot Yixing China Calligraphy
Yixing teapots are extraordinary works of art - each one has its own unique appearance, rhythm, and soul that comes alive with every tea gathering.
Why choose a Yixing teapot?
These teapots are crafted with exceptional care from what is known as "zisha" clay - a fine purple sand with a characteristically porous structure that allows it to absorb and retain the subtle aromatic notes of tea. The teapot is ideal for gongfu cha, the traditional Chinese brewing method in which multiple short steepings are drawn from the same leaves. Gongfu cha is a Chinese tea ritual centered around slowing down, finding calm, and savoring the present moment.
- Unique Yixing ceramic with a porous structure
- Decorated with Chinese calligraphy
- Designed primarily for gongfu cha style brewing
- Tea leaves are placed loosely directly inside the teapot
- Built-in strainer at the spout opening catches larger tea leaves
- Suitable for brewing loose leaf tea
Which teas work best with it?
This teapot performs best with oolongs and pu-erhs. It also works well with darker or roasted oolongs and certain bolder Chinese black teas. In any case, choose teas that are suited to multiple steepings. With Yixing ceramics, it's also a good idea to stick to one type of tea or a group of teas with a similar flavor profile over time - the teapot gradually absorbs the aromatic notes of the teas brewed in it. We do not recommend using the teapot for heavily flavored teas, fruit teas, or herbal blends.
Our tip: How to brew gongfu cha style?
- Start by warming the teapot with hot water.
- Add your tea leaves. Gongfu cha calls for a larger amount of leaves and less water than a standard brew.
- Pour water at the appropriate temperature for your chosen tea and steep for only a short time.
- Always pour out the entire infusion and re-steep the leaves. Subsequent steepings can be gradually extended as needed.
- When brewing for multiple people, pour the tea first into a pitcher (chahai) and then distribute it into small cups. When brewing for yourself, you can pour directly into your cup.

Teapot care
- Never wash it with dish soap - after use, simply rinse with clean water and leave to dry.
- Until the teapot has dried completely, leave it open - storing it with the lid on could cause it to develop a musty smell.
Please note - due to its ability to retain the flavor and aromatic notes of each steeping, it is recommended to use this teapot for a single type of tea, or for teas of a similar character.
