This kind of tea accessory is an invaluable aid in the Chinese tea ceremony Gongfu cha. In it, the utensils (teapot and cups) are poured with hot water to warm them up and then poured over the already finished tea. To avoid the whole table being one big puddle, tea seas are used.
This aesthetically very beautiful and above all practical table mat is made of different materials, such as wood or stoneware. The most commonly used material for tea seas is undoubtedly bamboo, which, thanks to its properties, is easy to handle, retains its natural appearance and does not mind too much moisture.
Bamboo tea seas are lightweight and easy to carry. Depending on the type, they either contain a plastic drawer to catch spillage or have a hinged lid and are all-bamboo. These tea seas are lacquered and moisture resistant. Therefore, tea seas are an absolute necessity in the Gongfu cha ceremony.
