Product description Statuette Stone Shiva Head 15 cm Grey

SHIVA
The chief Hindu god - he is assigned the role of destroyer of the universe (which Brahma had previously created and Vishnu maintained). The cult of the god Shiva is associated with the temporariness and impermanence of all material creation and with nature's constant ability to create. Just as death is not seen as a definitive end, the destruction of the universe is done so that it can be re-created. Shiva represents not only the end of bodily existence, but more importantly the peace and tranquility of rest. Shiva is the end but also the beginning of being, a true reality that takes on many forms. Shiva is most often depicted as a meditating yogi, a direct personification of asceticism. He combines the wildness of nature with a calm mind. Shiva's connection with wild nature is also expressed in one of his names - Pashupati (Lord of the Animals). His other form is Shiva natraj - dancing Shiva, or Shiva - lingam (shiva means light or fire, lingam means pillar) - literally a pillar of light or fire.
Shiva - symbols:
Third eye (on the forehead) - is the eye that looks beyond what is manifested.
Ganga- is the most sacred river of Hinduism, which originates in the celestial spheres. On earth, it flows down Shiva's hair.
Cobra around the neck - Shiva is also called Nageshvara (Lord of Snakes). The cobra represents death, which Shiva has overcome. It can also represent "Kundalini" (snake power).
The crescent moon- is a symbol of time and thus shows Shiva as the ruler of time.
The drum- is the source of the mantra AUM (read OM) by which the universe was created.
Vibhuti- are the three horizontal lines on Shiva's forehead. They represent the true essence of being that remains after ignorance and all attachments are burnt away by the fire of knowledge. Shiva's devoted sadhus also paint this symbol on their foreheads.
The trident - represents creation, maintenance and destruction. Shiva has control over these.

Please note that due to the material used, the statue may have minor surface imperfections.
