Product description Pareo Sarong Bali Flowers 02 Yellow 200 x 118 cm

Let yourself be wrapped in a beautiful sarong, handcrafted for you using traditional methods by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Bali. Choose your unique scarf. You'll stand out wherever you go – whether at the beach or by the pool.

If you're looking for a truly versatile fashion accessory, a sarong is the perfect choice. The ways you can wear and use a sarong are virtually endless. You can wear it as a distinctive wrap skirt or as elegant, lightweight dress in a variety of tie styles. On hot days, a sarong is an ideal garment – it feels wonderfully soft against the skin, airy, and breathable. In cooler weather, it works just as well as a scarf or a shawl. You can sit on it at a picnic, or use it as a unique piece of interior décor.

Sarong Design

Bali, known as the "Island of the Gods", is home to a rich and breathtaking variety of flora. Flowers hold deep significance in various ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations. Floral patterns are therefore among the most beloved motifs used to adorn sarongs. In Balinese culture, flower symbols represent purity, beauty, life, and the transient nature of existence.

Hibiscus is a sacred flower dedicated to the gods Ganesha, Shiva, and the goddess Kali. Its blooms symbolize purity, refinement, elegance, and perfection.

Plumeria – known in Bali as frangipani or Jepun – with its five petals expresses the interconnectedness of all living beings with the universe. The frangipani flower represents the five elements of the universe: earth, water, fire, air, and ether.

Color

Colors carry deep-rooted symbolism in Balinese culture and play a significant role in everyday life. This is reflected in traditional Balinese clothing as well.

Yellow is the color closest to sunlight after white – not only in its brightness, but also in its healing and uplifting qualities. It dispels negative thoughts and feelings. Yellow symbolizes the solar plexus chakra, which influences passion and intuition, and shapes our sense of personal power. It is the seat of self-awareness and personal well-being.

The Sarong Tradition in Bali

Bali is renowned for its rich and vibrant culture, in which clothing plays an undeniable role. The sarong and its feminine counterpart known as kamben form an essential part of traditional Balinese dress – whether for religious and ceremonial occasions or in everyday life.

Clothing in Bali is not merely a matter of fabric and style – it is seen as a visual language. The forms and patterns of sarongs tell a great deal about the people who wear them and the communities they come from. Each region of Indonesia takes pride in its own unique motifs that reflect its local cultural heritage.

A carefully chosen color and a one-of-a-kind pattern each tell their own story. In other words, every individual thread and distinctive design serves a dual purpose: clothing not only adorns, but also conveys a deeper spiritual message. What appears to be a simple piece of fabric transforms into an embodiment of faith and tradition.

The sarong also played an important role as an expression of solidarity and pride during the Dutch colonization of Bali, when wearing one was an act of patriotism and loyalty.

Sarongs continue to hold the status of a national treasure in Indonesia to this day. Wearing one is also an expression of respect and tribute to the artisans who breathed life into them through their skilled handiwork.

Caring for the sarong
Hand washing is recommended.
