Japanese incense sticks Namaki Kyara are blended from premium kyara agarwood (jinkoh) — a raw material harvested only in very small quantities and considered one of the most precious natural aromatic materials in the world. Kyara is the rarest and most prized grade of agarwood of all.
The scent of kyara is resinous and extraordinarily deep. In the Japanese incense tradition, agarwood holds a truly special place: it is used in Buddhist ceremonies, meditation, and the art of kōdō — the Japanese ritual of appreciating fragrance.
Kyara agarwood – why is it so rare?
Agarwood (jinkoh) forms through a natural resinous reaction inside tropical trees of the Aquilaria genus, a process that takes decades to centuries to complete. Kyara is the designation for the highest and most valued category of this wood.
