Tibetan prayer flags have 5 different colours representing the 5 elements of the earth. Red color - fire, green - wood, yellow - earth, blue - water, white - metal. Each flag carries the Buddha's teachings (mantras and sutras) and a depiction of the Medicine Buddha. When worshipped properly, it brings spiritual healing. The Buddha of Medicine is depicted in blue, dressed in monk's robes, always with medicinal plants. His left hand rests in his lap and he usually holds an alms bowl or a bowl in which he prepares medicines. His right hand, in a gesture of wish-fulfillment (varadamudra), clutches a flowering branch or fruit of a myrobalan.
