Porcelain zhong with hand-painted floral motif is designed for stylish green tea preparation and its better enjoyment. The tea bowl expands from the bottom, causing the water to cool faster, which is desirable for green tea preparation. Preparing green tea requires pouring in cooler water to release the flavour of the tea during the first three minutes of steeping. The tea bowl rests on a saucer, which prevents burns or scalds in case of careless handling of the zhong. The lid helps retain the tea's aroma while also serving as a substitute for a traditional strainer. A slight shift of the lid on the zhong creates an opening through which the tea can be easily strained or conveniently drunk directly from the zhong. The amount of infusions that can be prepared in the zhong depends on the type of tea.
Preparation of tea in the zhong:
1.- Pour a reasonable amount of tea leaves into the zhong (approx. one teaspoon).
2.- Pour hot water over the tea (70 - 85 °C for green tea), immediately remove the lid, and carefully strain so that the tea leaves do not escape.
3. - Pour the water over the tea, which is already at the steeping temperature (depending on the type of tea). Pour the water over the walls of the zhong so that the tea leaves start to swirl in the zhong. In this way, we achieve the necessary release of tea essential oils and coloring of the infusion.
4. - During the steeping process, we can lift the lid and stir the tea leaves with the edge of the lid.
5. - Strain the steeped tea into a teacup or enjoy directly from the zhong.
How to hold the zhong: The tea bowl remains on the saucer throughout the tea preparation. The bowl and saucer can be held in one hand and the lid held with the other, or the entire zhong can be held in one hand only, with a thumb holding the lid.
